Customer Support Engineer

JEOL (UK) Ltd. is pleased to be recruiting for the position of Customer Support Engineer.

JEOL is one of the world’s leading scientific instrument manufacturers. Activity in the UK includes NMR, TEM & SEM Electron Optics, and Mass Spectrometry. The successful person will be primarily responsible for UK support of JEOL NMR Systems.

JEOL prides itself on high-quality customer care. Satisfying these high standards involves building good relationships with clients and understanding their particular needs. This requires a continual development of technical knowledge to enable accurate fault diagnosis and resolution.

The successful candidate will;

  • Join our established NMR support group (and support other groups when required)
  • Ideally (but not limited to) based in the Midlands region
  • Receive ongoing on-the-job training and formal training at our European Demonstration facility in Hertfordshire
  • Receive additional training at our parent company in Tokyo
  • Support customers throughout the UK and occasionally further afield
  • Be a UK or Irish national or have settled status and a legal right to work within the UK
  • Possess a current and valid UK driving license

NMR instruments are complex and involve;

  • Electronics (RF/digital)
  • Computer systems (predominately Windows based)
  • Pneumatics
  • Superconducting Magnets
  • Cryogenic fluids (Nitrogen/Helium)
  • Vacuum systems

The role will ultimately involve;

  • Liaising directly with customers at all levels
  • Installation & planned maintenance of instrumentation
  • Diagnosis and repair of faults
  • Basic customer training
  • Travel 

In a highly specialised bespoke area of science, a solid background in one or more of the following would be desirable;

  • Formal qualifications in electrical and electronic engineering
  • Electronics digital/RF
  • Analytical instrument support
  • Technical or scientific background 
  • Physics
  • Ex-force

Must be a good communicator who is highly motivated and able to work on an independent daily basis.
